“By switching to a plant-based diet, I know I’m doing my part to save the land, animals, and environment, and also be healthier as an individual.”
One quote I live by is from Jessica Chastain: “ Living vegan is about trying to live a life where I’m not contributing to the cruelty in the world. … While I am on this planet, I want everyone I meet to know that I am grateful they are here.”
It’s been around five years since I became a vegan. People often think there was one special incident that influenced me to change my lifestyle, but honestly I have just always been interested by health and the environment ever since I was young.
I started to read articles about diet, health, and lifestyle in high school. One day while perusing articles, I accidentally stumbled upon a vegan blogger. She wrote about how great she felt eating a plant-based diet, and how she never counted calories or carbs. I was intrigued, and thus began my journey to count the number of vegetables I ate rather than the number of calories.
Along the way I also learned about the environmental impacts of the meat industry, which emits more greenhouse gas emissions than even the transportation industry. And while we can’t all go out and buy hybrid cars and solar panels, we can stop supporting the industry that refuses to support life on earth.
Now working as a Non-Profit Organization Specialist in New York City, I see everyone negatively affected by all the pollution and changing climate. By switching to a plant-based diet, I know I’m doing my part to save the land, animals, and environment, and also be healthier as an individual. That’s the reason I became, and am proud to be vegan.
Necessary for new yorkers when we are on the subway (either for your own music, or if you want to block out all the noise and people yelling!)
I usually don’t wear glasses, but I like to keep them handy for whenever I read books
Moisturizing my lips is a must after eating.
I prefer to buy clothes and handbags from ethical brands or thrift shops. I love vintage fashion, because it is second hand (which reduces waste) but still in style, since fashion is so cyclical!
I have had this bag for about two years. I love how this bag is spacious and simple, but I wish it had more pockets. I usually find my bags at my favorite thrift shops!
